The Village of Palm Springs in South Florida recently upgraded a set of their aluminum bleachers and now local residents have a bright new place to sit under a welcome shade canopy.

Bill Golson, Parks and Recreation Director, said the 10-row bleachers were installed to replace older bleachers at the field and they feature new improvements in design and safety. The new seating also includes fencing at the back and sides plus handrails in the center aisle.

"They are going to be safe and functional for many years to come," Golson said.  "We can have peace of mind and our safety concerns will be alleviated."

The bleachers are located at the village's main ball field complex at 226 Cypress Lane in Palm Beach County which features four fields. The multipurpose field is usually busy not only with baseball games, but also hosting many different events.

When you visit The Village of Palm Springs, one can see the town has an exceptional sports complex that meets the needs of their nearly 20,000 residents.

With the installation of their new 10-row aluminum bleachers, the parks department shows it is committed to improving amenities on a regular basis so they are safe and enjoyable for regular use by the public.

Aluminum bleachers continue to be upgraded

Aluminum bleachers are known for their sturdiness and ability to withstand harsh weather. However, it's always a good practice to inspect the bleachers periodically and replace them with new bleachers that follow the latest code changes from organizations such as the International Code Council.

The ICC drafts codes for different structures in an attempt to get manufacturers and builders in all states to follow the same set of guidelines.

When inspecting bleachers, some of the items to review include:

  • Are all components and systems in working condition?
  • Are there any signs of corrosion?
  • Does it feel unsafe or unsteady when you walk up and down the bleachers?
  • Are wields intact and not cracked?
  • Are braces missing, loose or damaged?
  • Are all seat and foot boards evident and secured properly?
  • Is all hardware (nuts and bolts) installed and tightened?
  • Is there any bowing in seats or floor boards?
  • Are there signs of splintering, cracking in the seat or floor boards?
  • Is there capping on the protruding bolts and tubing?

It's smart to ensure that only staffers who are trained maintain and operate the bleachers. They should inspect the bleachers periodically and keep detailed records.

Also, it is recommended that the structure is reviewed by an expert bleacher inspector every year.

The Park and Facilities Catalog has a full selection of aluminum bleachers in 3 row, 4 row, 5 row, 10 row and 15 row configurations. They also offer elevated bleachers, portable bleachers and tip and roll bleachers.
