Students sit in the shade of commercial umbrellas at metal picnic tables in the Student Courtyard
The Park and Facilities Catalog recently supplied the famous McFarland High School with an array of attractive metal picnic tables and commercial umbrellas.
Why is McFarland HS famous?
For one, the school, located in central California, is a powerhouse when it comes to the sport of cross-country running.
The team has won 24 CIF Central Section championships - in a row.
Secondly, the school and runners were featured in the famous Walt Disney movie - "McFarland USA" that starred Kevin Costner as the coach.
McFarland High School recently added a large supply of metal picnic tables and umbrellas from The Park and Facilities Catalog.
These outdoor picnic tables were placed in the Student Courtyard where students can easily gather for meals and to mingle.
"We are very happy with the tables and umbrellas we purchased," said Kristin Jimenez, from the McFarland Unified School District.

Coated metal picnic tables are perfect for the outdoors. They are treated with a durable thermoplastic coating that can withstand the elements like rain, heat, ice or snow. Weather won't damage the steel, or cause it to rust or corrode. In fact, the finish also repels harmful UV rays to prevent fading and retain its vibrant coloring.
In essence, thermoplastic is a thick plastic coating that is melted and applied to the metal. It bonds to the steel and when cooled, forms a thick protective layer.
That coating is also great for public use of these picnic tables. Spills, stains or graffiti are easily removed. In addition, the surface of the table is in a diamond-shaped, expanded pattern which is perforated. That means liquids will fall right through the surface and won't pool.
When it comes to the hot sun, the holes in the surface also keep the picnic tables from becoming too hot to touch.
Included in the purchase were several ADA picnic tables. These picnic tables provide an opening for wheelchair access so students with disabilities can join their friends.
Commercial umbrellas with tough marine-grade fabrics
To keep the students sitting at the picnic tables out of the sun and heat, the school also ordered more than 60 commercial umbrellas. These hardy commercial umbrellas are made with a heavy-gauge vinyl material used for marine fabrics. It's very tough. "Sunbrella" fabric is highly resistant to the sun's rays and comes with a five-year, no-fade warranty.
For the framework, the skeleton of the umbrella is not made with wood but consists of hardier fiberglass ribs and stainless steel parts.
These metal picnic tables can be ordered in a variety of colors, even custom colors. To match the school's theme, the metal picnic tables and umbrellas are red in color.
A cougar is the team's mascot. As everyone knows, cougars are fast. Very fast. It's great to see a school take pride in their cross-country and other teams and in the outdoor site furnishings they provide on their grounds.
"We are excited that our products were installed at such a famous high school," said David Kennis, senior relationship executive with The Park and Facilities Catalog. "It's great that the administration provided such a welcome place for the students to congregate outside."
