Commercial Bike Racks with a custom look can add an interesting twist to any landscape.
That's exactly what happened at The Living Arts & Science Center in Lexington, KY.
The center is an interesting, unique and active facility that offers more than 400 arts and science classes and workshops for children and adults.
More than 40,000 local residents are involved with the center every year.
The LASC campus provides more than 15,000 sq. ft. of programming space that includes a computer lab, science exhibition hall, professional kitchen, art gallery, and the city's only planetarium.
Besides the unique and diverse programs, the center itself is housed in a very unique building - the home built by George B. Kinkead in 1847. Kinkead was a famous lawyer during his time. He was once an attorney for Abraham Lincoln and his wife Mary Todd.
After the Civil War, the lawyer also developed a neighborhood for freed African Americans on land next to the Kinkead House.
In 1970, the house was loaned to the Livings Arts and Science Center and donated entirely in 1981. The LASC added a $5.5 million renovation and expansion project in 2016.

To coincide with the spirit of innovation and creativity, when the center decided to add a bike rack, they decided not to go with a traditional commercial bike such as a Wave or Grid rack.

"The green coil rack is a good match for the new addition to our facility," said Ethan Sharp, Grants Program Manager. "The new addition has green siding and large windows that connect spaces in the building with our outdoor green space."
They placed the coil custom bike rack near the entrance to the parking lot (naturally, to accommodate cyclists looking for bicycle parking and to encourage more people to bicycle than drive).
"Both the bike rack and the new addition blend well int our green space," Ethan pointed out. "We chose the coil shape because it stands out and draws attention more so than other kinds of bike racks."
What's great is that the city is building an urban "greenway" that it will pass through the entrance to the parking lot. So there will be an opportunity to admire and lock a bike to the coil back rack.
Custom bike racks are a sure way to catch the attention of everyone. And they send a message that the facility is bicycle-friendly and encourages alternative means of transportation.
Sphere concrete benches compliment landscape
The center also added sphere concrete benches to their grounds from The Park and Facilities Catalog. These cement benches were installed in the gardens on their grounds where they have several trees, a stream, and many plants.
"The shape and color of the benches allow them to blend into the garden in all four seasons," Ethan said. "The benches were also installed last month, but we expect that they will get a lot of use in the summer."
As for the outdoor commercial site furnishings from the Park Catalog, he added, "We are very happy with them."
