Custom Bike Racks Project Town Pride And Unique Identity

One of the City of Bellbrook's custom bike racks

Installing Custom Bike Racks with a town's logo can be a way to reinforce pride in any municipality and provide adequate outdoor bicycle parking at the same time.

Bellbrook is a beautiful city in southwest Ohio with a population of about 7,000 (according to the 2010 US Census). The town started back in 1816 and notable former residents include writer Erma Bombeck and actor Jonathan Winters.

To add bicycle parking for the public, the town decided to add five bike racks.

But instead of adding just ordinary U-Style or Wave bike racks, the town decided to add some flair to the design and ordered custom bike racks.

These custom bike racks are eye-catching, unique and sure to be a source of pride for the town. Basically, the town chose U-type steel bike racks with a metal plate that could be laser-cut. The Park and Facilities Catalog was able to cut the town's logo and name into the metal plate.

One might think this is a difficult endeavor. After

Commercial Bike Racks Offered In Several Designs For Different Environments And Needs

A low-profile bike rack is just one of the many different types of Commercial Bike Racks offered by The Park and Facilities Catalog

Commercial Bike Racks are not all the same and different products are best suited for different situations.

Take the low-profile grid rack at a vacation property in Hilton Head, SC.

This commercial bike rack was installed near one of the pools at the community.

They chose this smaller type of commercial bike rack for a reason - to be unobtrusive.

"We wanted a low-profile rack so it does not distract from the natural beauty of the property," said Lisa Newton of Island Management. "We really like the bike rack. It keeps the bikes neat and organized."

These bike racks are made with galvanized metal for years of protection against the weather and sun. The pre-assembled hoops are half-inch diameter steel. The assembly fasteners point toward the ground so the nuts and bolts are hidden from the inside base angle to deter theft.

The single-sided model holds six bikes.

Their signature sandwich is actually not a sandwich, but a "crumpwich," a delectable combination of the traditional British bread made with locally sourced (and very fresh) products.

The interior design of the store itself features octagonal shaped tiles. Those tiles create a cool "bee-hive-like" appearance that makes

The organization PeopleForBikes just released its latest list of the Top Places for Bikes and included in the methodology is the availability of bicycle parking determined by the number of spaces and outdoor bike racks.

The top five cities named in the ratings were:

Boulder, CO Fort Collins, CO Eugene, OR Manhattan, NY Arlington, VA Ranking based on factors from bike lanes to safety

To compile the list, the organization used several factors to create a scoring system for ranking cities.

Have you ever considered the benefits of adding Custom Bike Racks with fins, tails, and teeth to your town, business or school?

That's what the City of Haysville in Kansas did recently when they installed a custom bike rack in the shape of a shark at their beautiful, new activity center.

At the center, built in 2017, the recreation department manages a giant-size pool for town residents.

Nearby, the rec department brings a bit of the beach to Kansas with two sand volleyball courts. They offer plenty of activities indoors as well from tiny tot basketball to family movie nights.

Georgie Carter, recreation director, said the shark-shaped custom bike rack has special significance.

"Shark week is always something the lifeguards have fun with during the summer," she said.

In addition, the youth swim team is called the "Piranhas" so there is a tie-in there as well.

  8. Commercial Bike Racks Are Manufactured In Two Classes And With One Major Purpose: How To Deter Bicycle Bandits

Commercial Bike Racks Are Manufactured In Two Classes And With One Major Purpose: How To Deter Bicycle Bandits

Commercial bike racks are becoming a more important part of the landscape as the number of bike commuters has increased 46% nationwide from 2005 to 2013 and more than 100% in several major cities

Commercial bike racks vary in shape and size but are basically designed for two types of classes - long-term and short-term parking. Both of those classes involve bicycle security.

It's important to know how your location applies to those bicycle parking classifications.

But here's probably the most important factor to consider - bike thefts.

Bicycle thefts are on the rise across the country. The FBI says more than 200,000 bike thefts were reported in 2014.

That's reported thefts. Experts say there are a huge number of unreported thefts. The real number is probably more than 1 million bicycles stolen every year.

Street crime has increased in most major American cities, especially with the opioid crisis. Combine this with the fact that people now buy more expensive bicycles, many in the $300 to

Introducing The MK1 Bike Dock- The Next Big Innovation In Bicycle Parking With A Small, Space-Saving Footprint

The Park and Facilities Catalog announces the introduction of its latest bicycle parking rack invention - the space-saving MK1 Bike Dock.

The MK1 Bike Dock has a unique, patent-pending design that helps bicycle planners park a large number of bicycles in locations where space is limited. Those locations typically include universities, colleges, schools, urban areas and office complexes.

"We know the challenges that architects and planners face when they need to provide bicycle parking for hundreds if not thousands of bicycles," said inventor Chris Luyet, Vice President and General Manager of the Park and Facilities Catalog. "So we designed the MK1 with the smallest footprint possible to accommodate a large number of bicycles and to create an atmosphere that encourages more people to RIDE than drive."

The MK1 Bike Dock keeps bikes upright

What makes the Mk1 so unique? For one, size. Unlike larger traditional commercial bike racks such as Wave racks or Grid racks, the Mk1 is only 10.5" wide

Outdoor Bike Racks and Bicycling Infrastructure Captures Attention Of Mayors Across The US

Surveys of city residents show they overwhelmingly approve of spending more money on improving bicycle infrastructure in their towns

    By Erica Puisis

Make way for more bicycles - plus bike lanes and outdoor bike racks, in cities across the United States.

As two-wheeled commuters, errand-runners, and leisure riders continue to increase the number of bikes in cities of all sizes, the demand for bike infrastructure continues to grow.

The collective pedal power of these cyclists is more than just eco-friendly. It can be economically-friendly also since communities and businesses that support a biking lifestyle can attract new residents and customers who value an outdoor-oriented lifestyle.

What are the benefits to embracing the bicycle movement, and how can cities meet the unique infrastructure challenges posed by an increase in bicycle traffic? These questions and more have been tackled by metropolitan areas in every corner of the country.

Why More Cities Are Adding Custom Commercial Bike Racks And More Bike Lanes To Reduce Smog And Congestion

Commercial bike racks in the shape of bicycles. Bike parking racks can now be ordered in any shape imaginable. These unique bike-shaped bike racks were added to the city by the Harrisburg Downtown Improvement District

Cities are finding out that when people see more bike share programs and commercial bike racks around town, they start to think about riding their bicycles more as an alternative means of transportation.

It's a simple chicken and egg on a bike premise. For example, one woman recounts about how she noticed a large bike parking corral in front of her favorite coffee shop. There were several bicycles locked to the bike parking racks installed there.

That prompted her to think, "Wouldn't it be fun to ride my bike to get coffee in the morning instead of driving?"

That's how the proposition of adding more commercial bike racks and bicycle infrastructure works. When people see how easy it is to bike around town, they start bicycling around town.

  14. Why Becoming A Bicycle-Friendly Community Is A Great Promotional Tool For Municipalities

Why Becoming A Bicycle-Friendly Community Is A Great Promotional Tool For Municipalities

With a record number of bicyclists in America today, it would be wise for cities to seek a "bike friendly" designation by adding more bike lanes and bike parking racks

Is your city a  bicycle-friendly community with plenty of bike lanes, bike parking racks, and safer streets? It can mean the difference between getting with the times or having people avoid living in your city altogether.

Bicycle commuting is on the rise. Since 2005, the share of bicycle commuters increased at a national average of 46%, but some states have seen an increase of more than 100%. This is good for everyone, but especially the environment and the health of individuals within the community.

Bicycle commuters are so passionate about continuing to bike to work that they are willing to specifically move to bicycle-friendly cities. If your city isn't bike friendly, it might be slowing its growth.

If you want to keep up with modern trends, earning a bicycle-friendly distinction is key. The most well-known certification

The League of American Bicyclists estimates the overall number of bicyclists who ride to work grew by 62% from 2000-2013 and 105% in bicycle-friendly communities. Many cities are spending billions on bicycle infrastructure and now require bicycle parking and bike rooms to promote this alternative mode of transportation.
