Basic Checklist For Starting A Dog Park With A Variety Of Dog Park Equipment

Dog park equipment such as hurdles are equipped with an adjustable bar for different dog sizes and breeds

Here is a handy preliminary checklist for those interested in starting a dog park and adding amenities such as dog park equipment.

There are apparently more than 1,000 dog parks currently in the US. From 2009 to the present, the top 100 cities in America saw nearly a 75% increase in the number of dog parks added.

One reason, a super large number of people own dogs. Nearly 50% of households in the US own at least one dog.

The total number of dogs is estimated to be a whopping 89.7 million.

    That's a lot of canines.

Let's face it. Dogs are programmed to run and jump.

Large Commercial Planters Serve Multiple Purposes

Large commercial planters can help provide a welcome display of greenery to make a great impression for any facility

Large commercial planters have two main applications - aesthetics and barriers.

    Let's start with the latter.

One purpose is to use commercial planters to steer visitors in one direction and away from other areas. But to do it in a pleasant and unobtrusive manner using plants and flowers.

Many facility managers today are also concerned about security in front of their buildings. After all, nobody wants to build a nice hotel, office building or retail center and then have a driver skip the curb and crash their car into the side of the structure.

    It does happen.

Some facilities opt to add commercial, heavy-duty bollards to surround their buildings.

But large commercial planters, many weighing more than 1,000 pounds, can serve as strong buffers as well.

That was the case for the EVEN Hotel| Staybridge Suites in Seattle.

"I chose this type of planter to provide a major upscale

New “Plogging” Exercise Craze Burns Calories, Cleans Streets And Puts Litter In Proper Trash Receptacles

Some joggers now carry trash bags with them as part of the "Plogging" movement to pick up litter while they run.

"Plogging" - is a new exercise trend gaining momentum worldwide that provides a major benefit for every community and the planet in general.

The idea is simple, green and very effective.

Plogging is basically combining jogging with picking up litter along the way.

The idea is that after you put on your running shoes, you also don a pair of gloves or bring along a grabbing device. Then you take out a trash bag and off you go.

As you jog down the street, through a park or on a trail, you squat or bend down quickly and gather trash along the way.

When the bag is full, you place it in the nearest trash receptacle.

The word "plogging" actually originated in Sweden. It's a combination of the word jog and "plocka up" which just as it sounds, means "pick up." The trend is attributed to an avid Swedish trail runner named Erik Ahlstron and started in 2016.

    Gradually, the word about plogging

Custom Bike Racks Project Town Pride And Unique Identity

One of the City of Bellbrook's custom bike racks

Installing Custom Bike Racks with a town's logo can be a way to reinforce pride in any municipality and provide adequate outdoor bicycle parking at the same time.

Bellbrook is a beautiful city in southwest Ohio with a population of about 7,000 (according to the 2010 US Census). The town started back in 1816 and notable former residents include writer Erma Bombeck and actor Jonathan Winters.

To add bicycle parking for the public, the town decided to add five bike racks.

But instead of adding just ordinary U-Style or Wave bike racks, the town decided to add some flair to the design and ordered custom bike racks.

These custom bike racks are eye-catching, unique and sure to be a source of pride for the town. Basically, the town chose U-type steel bike racks with a metal plate that could be laser-cut. The Park and Facilities Catalog was able to cut the town's logo and name into the metal plate.

One might think this is a difficult endeavor. After

    They are our National Parks.

National Parks (and for that matter state, county and city parks) are a major force in our economy and support a large number of workers.

The benefits were outlined recently in a study conducted by the National Park Service: 2017 National Park Visitor Spending Effects. Economic Contributions to Local Communities, States and the Nation

U.S. Secretary of the Interior Ryan Zinke announced that spending by people visiting our national parks generated an estimated $35.8 billion in 2017.

That includes the money people spend on gas, hotels, restaurants, gift shops, etc. when they hit the road to go to Yosemite, Yellowstone,

London Becomes World's First National Park City And Why That's Important

Because of a massive tree-planting effort and other "green" activities, London was declared the World's First National Park City

As urban areas continue to attract more people and expand, there will be more pressure on them to develop spaces for office, commercial and residential needs.

However, there is also a movement pushing in the other direction to make a city more like a park.

For example, London has been designated as the world's first National Park City.

That announcement was made by the National Park City Foundation which is led by environmentalist Daniel Raven-Ellison. The charity works in conjunction with World Urban Parks, a high-profile organization that promotes parks and green space in cities.

    What is National Park City?

First of all, according to National Park City's website, the designation is not actually considered an award.

The National Park City considers this designation as a part of a vision, community mindset and a "journey."

"We want cities to have more bird song,

Commercial Bike Racks Offered In Several Designs For Different Environments And Needs

A low-profile bike rack is just one of the many different types of Commercial Bike Racks offered by The Park and Facilities Catalog

Commercial Bike Racks are not all the same and different products are best suited for different situations.

Take the low-profile grid rack at a vacation property in Hilton Head, SC.

This commercial bike rack was installed near one of the pools at the community.

They chose this smaller type of commercial bike rack for a reason - to be unobtrusive.

"We wanted a low-profile rack so it does not distract from the natural beauty of the property," said Lisa Newton of Island Management. "We really like the bike rack. It keeps the bikes neat and organized."

These bike racks are made with galvanized metal for years of protection against the weather and sun. The pre-assembled hoops are half-inch diameter steel. The assembly fasteners point toward the ground so the nuts and bolts are hidden from the inside base angle to deter theft.

The single-sided model holds six bikes.

How "Forest Bathing" In A Park Lifts Your Spirits And Lowers Stress

The benefits of "Forest Bathing" on a park bench

Want to boost your mood? Lower your blood pressure? Relax? Reenergize?

Take a "Forest Bath" in your local park or wooded area.

Forest bathing is a practice that began in Japan in the 1980s and is catching on worldwide.

During that time in Japan, health practitioners began to notice the toll that the increased industrialization of the country was having on workers. Those long hours created more stress, irritability and health issues.

Americans would be smart to pay attention to this practice as well. According to the Environmental Protection Agency, the average US resident spends 93% of their time indoors.

To find a simple and inexpensive remedy for this ailment, the experts in Japan suggested citizens get out of the house and into the woods.

In essence, immerse themselves in a forest setting.

Forest bathing, known as Shinrin Yoku, combines beliefs from Shintoism and Buddhism and their tradition of connecting with nature.

Sleeping Dunes National Lakeshore staff has added a motorized chair so the disabled can now access trails to the lake. (NPS Photo)

As the big bubble of Baby Boomers gets older but still want to remain active in national and state parks, there will be a need for more wheelchair access.

That includes ADA Picnic Tables. These are picnic tables with extended tabletops that allow a wheelchair to fit underneath so a disabled person can join the family for a meal. (There are also ADA picnic tables with center access).

The Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore in Michigan is extending this wheelchair access idea to trails as well.

They have added a heavy-duty wheelchair with big treaded tires for their disabled visitors.

The device is called a Track Chair. And this might be the first park where they are being used.

These tank-like wheelchairs are incredible. They have the ability to traverse up steep hills and crawl over sandy surfaces.
